Use a narrow camera angle that avoids family members, documents, religious spaces and identifying views.
Ask what language and connection pace works. India-focused video chat should account for mobile data, household privacy and fast official action when financial fraud occurs.

Hindi and English may be common in many contexts, but India has numerous scheduled languages and many additional regional and community languages. A state, name or accent does not reliably identify which language someone wants to use. Ask directly and accept that the answer may change by topic.
When language levels differ, use short sentences, avoid dense slang and give time for a response. Code-switching is normal for many speakers. Do not treat an accent as comic material or keep asking someone to repeat a phrase for entertainment.
India uses one national standard time, IST, but the practical day can still differ by work pattern, study, region and household. Ask whether the timing is convenient instead of assuming that a shared clock means shared availability.
A participant may end quickly when privacy changes in the room. That is not automatically rejection. A short goodbye or a later retry is more respectful than demanding an explanation.
Use a narrow camera angle that avoids family members, documents, religious spaces and identifying views.
Headphones reduce what others hear, but the microphone may still capture names and nearby conversation.
Hide message previews and payment alerts before starting the camera.
Do not demand a room tour or ask to see relatives as proof of identity or culture.
Many people join online services through a phone, while connection quality can vary by network, building, congestion and travel. Stabilize the device, close background downloads and switch away from a weak public network when possible. A frozen frame or late response is not evidence of dishonesty.
Video consumes more data and power than text. Keep the first call short, especially when the other person mentions a limited data plan or low battery. Do not pressure them to increase resolution, turn the camera back on or move to a place with less privacy.
Browser permissions operate at both the site and device level. If camera access fails, check the address-bar permission, Android or iOS privacy settings and whether another app is using the camera. Never install an unknown codec or remote-control tool at another participant’s request.
A scammer may request a UPI transfer, QR-code action, bank detail, OTP, screen share, investment deposit or account-recovery code. Do not comply. Receiving a payment request is not the same as receiving money, and scanning or approving an unfamiliar instruction can authorize a loss.
A live face does not verify a bank employee, government official, police officer, recruiter or investment adviser. End the call and contact the claimed organization through its official website or known number. Do not let the caller provide every step of the verification.
If a financial cyber fraud occurs, contact the bank or payment provider immediately and report quickly through India’s cybercrime helpline 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Preserve the transaction ID, time and account reference without publishing them publicly.
Do not show Aadhaar, PAN, passports, student cards, employee badges, bank statements or verification codes on camera. A new contact does not need documentary proof of your legal name, caste, religion, marital status, workplace or home address.
Moving to a phone-number-based messaging service may reveal a number, profile photograph, status, contacts or payment identity. Review privacy settings before moving and use a separate boundary for future contact. A call does not create an obligation to answer later.
Keep conversations friendly. End inappropriate exposure, coercive pressure, threats, blackmail, hate or a credible age concern. Do not gather identity documents to investigate; report the observable concern.
Use the Nanacam report route for account or community-rule behavior. Use 1930 and the national portal for cybercrime and urgent financial-fraud reporting. Use India’s unified emergency number 112 when police, fire, health or other emergency assistance is needed.
Do not remain in an unsafe call to collect more evidence. Note the time, username, visible behavior and any transaction reference after leaving. Avoid downloading or forwarding illegal or harmful imagery.
For an ordinary mismatch, end clearly and move on. Reporting should describe actual harassment, scams, inappropriate content, threats or other rule concerns—not a different opinion, language difficulty or lack of chemistry.
Speed matters after a fraudulent transfer; privacy matters before one is ever requested.
